NEW PHILADELPHIA – Three Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School seniors are each set to sign a National Letter of Intent to play the sport they love at the collegiate level. They will all sign their letters during a joint event Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 2 PM, at TCC in New Philadelphia. The public is invited.
>>Sarah Varcolla, the daughter of Christopher and Jennifer Varcolla of New Philadelphia, is accepting a scholarship to play volleyball at Youngstown State University. She is a 6-foot middle hitter and will study psychology in the fall, leading to a career as an occupational therapist. Under Head Coach Mark Hardaway, the Penguins are currently 7-6 in the Horizon League and 16-12 overall so far this season.
>>Gabrielle Fredericks, the daughter of Mike and Justine Fredericks of New Philadelphia, is accepting a scholarship to play softball at the University of Akron. She plays catcher and first base, and will major in sports psychology. The Zips finished the 2014 campaign 12-6 in the Mid-American Conference and 27-16 overall with Head Coach Julie Jones.
>>Sydney Anderson, the daughter of Steve and Toni Anderson of New Philadelphia, is accepting a scholarship to play softball at Kent State University. She plays centerfield and will major in exercise science to pursue a career in physical therapy. The Golden Flashes ended the 2014 season under Head Coach Karen Linder with a record of 10-6 in the Mid-American Conference and 25-20 overall.
